The Importance of Addendums
When unique situations related to ISPM 15 develop at a facility, addendums become an important part of the IPPC program. The addendum is needed to add clarity to the situation by providing a clear description of the circumstances involved and how they will be handled. Examples of when an addendum is needed include:
In any of the above examples, if an addendum is not in place to provide clarity to what is occurring at the facility, confusion regarding the issue can occur resulting in a non-conformance being issued. A proper addendum should be comprised of the following:
Completed addendums must be submitted to the Direcetor of Wood Packaging with related information (e.g. map or other pertinent information) for review. The addendum will either be approved or recommendations for modification will be made. Once the facility receives final approval, the facility then places it with their QC procedures and TP retains a copy corporately with the QC procedures we have on file for the facility. Once approved, it can then be implemented at the facility. The TP inspector will review the addendum on subsequent visits and verify the process remains accurate and is properly being implemented at the facility.
Keep in mind the following:
The goal for all this is a consistently conforming program at the facility. Please contact the Director of Wood Packaging with any questions or if you are uncertain as to whether your facility requires an addendum.
