All TPTS instructors are hand-picked and offer the highest levels of knowledge and experience. Most are employees of Timber Products Inspection.

National Grading Rule Lumber Grading/Level 1

Our NGR Lumber Grading/Level 1 course is designed for those who plan to become qualified lumber graders or would just like to learn a little more about NGR for dimension lumber.  Previous attendees to this class include mill managers, sawmill foreman, quality control technicians, dry-end superintendents and lumber buyers.

This four-day course includes classroom work, labs, grading practice, Q&A sessions and visual and written testing. While the content is specific to Southern Pine, the information is applicable to all softwoods. Discussion topics include general grading rules, definitions, classification and measurement of knots, natural lumber characteristics and manufacturing defects.

Participants completing the course receive a manual including the NGR manual, the TP Graders Handbook, course content, diagrams and copies of slides to help with note-taking. Each student will also receive a certificate of course completion.
